A little over 2 months ago, my brother passed away. In the scorching heat of August, I went to work in the morning, planned his funeral service, cared for a heart broken mother and moved her in with me. While my husband and I knew that she would one day move in with us so we could care for her, we did not realize it would be under such urgent conditions.

Moving in itself is stressful. Death of a loved one is stressful. Ge...

Dear J,

I took mom to the cemetery on Monday. She had already walked there once. This was my first time since the burial. I don't know what I must have expected, but I didn't expect a big mound of dirt coming up from the ground. I knew the headstone would be awhile longer, but somewhere under that messy mountain of clay, your body laid there.

The floral arrangement from the service was still on top and the roses turned brown and...

* Authors Note:

On Friday, August 5, 2016, my brother passed away. I had toyed with the idea of writing him letters, and finally began to write them. I am sharing my imperfect letters to my brother in hopes that others who are grieving, understand they are not alone. One day in all of our lives, we will all understand this place. I hope to give someone that feeling-of understanding- and help assist others in their  grieving pr...

School is coming to an end and summer is upon us! Which means……bored kids who get cranky from not being entertained 24/7. I’m not sure how or when it happened but why do parents, especially moms feel the need to be like a cruise director and plan out all these magical memories?

I have a board on Pinterest called “cool stuff to do with kids." Currently I have 121 pins. I have completed maybe 4. I keep adding and adding. Wh...

I was the best mom before I had kids. I was never going to have kids that misbehaved, they were always going to listen to me and I would absolutely by no means ever bribe my kids.

Fast forward a few years…..there are times when I wonder what creatures have taken over my children as they act like they have never been in public, or I think they have hearing loss because I’ve asked then 15 times to put on their shoes but can some...

When I was a child, if you told me that food was from the ground, or it looked like it was, I wouldn't touch it. I spent many of my childhood years in the cities of New York, completely disconnected from nature. I did love the rare sightings of squirrels and abundance of pigeons, the occasional trips to Central Park and I was overjoyed by recycling aluminium cans for a few cents in the recycling machines near my home. It was o...

How many of you moms have heard this – “Is your husband babysitting the kids tonight?” I seriously want to scream when I hear this. Let’s see a show of hands of how many men are asked this question. Oh none? That’s what I thought. But I’ll leave that soapbox for another time.

Whenever anyone asks me that question, I look right at them and say, “NO, he is being a parent.” In our house, raising our kids is a...

It took a full day and an air wrench (thanks to our neighbor) to get the seats out. It was a rewarding project, and we had some company. Our niece and nephew came over for a little seat removing party.

Next, we removed the aisle panel and chiseled out the rubber floors. Hard work, but no more school bus smell!

Here's Ben removing the ceiling panels and insulation. He needs the extra headroom and we found some awesome insulating...

This is the story of our bus conversion. There are so many confusing steps just to get started converting a school bus into a living space. Some days it feels like we are walking circles in a forest with a broken compass. For all those who have trudged the path before us and shared your experiences, THANK YOU! This blog is intended to pass on our experience and help others the same way they helped us.

Courtney's version of th...
